Have you ever thought about eternity? Most of us have. And while none of us knows all that eternity holds for us, most of us have great anticipation at the prospect of spending eternity in the presence of God and the company of believers.
One thing we do know is that you cant take it with you
none of our material possessions in this life will follow us into eternity. The Scriptures tell us that at the end of time, this world, and everything in it, will be destroyed. People
men and women, boys and girls, those created in the image of God
only people will experience eternity. Which means that those who want to invest in eternity will learn to invest in the lives of others.
The writer of Hebrews challenged the early believers to consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together
but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching (10:24-25). This wasnt simply a reminder that they needed to attend church on Sunday. So much more than that, this is a challenge that each of us is to be giving intentional thought to the others in our lives and to the ways in which we can encourage them in love and good works.
A mentoring relationship is a relationship in which you invest your life in the life of another person, to encourage them, to disciple them, to challenge them, to be used by God as He accomplishes His purposes in their life. Some mentoring relationships come about naturally, they grow out of a friendship or an acquaintance with someone at the gym or in a larger group. Other mentoring relationships are sought out intentionally as one person approaches another and directly asks to begin this kind of relationship. But the question that each of us needs to ask ourselves is this, Where am I investing my life for eternity
into whose life am I currently investing my life?
